January ‘24: Welcome to Our Beginning

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the January/February 2024 issue of the Philly Poetry Chapbook Review, our beginning!

You might notice that, unlike many literary magazines, we don’t publish all new content at the beginning of an issue. While our content is archived with the issue in which it appeared, I prefer to publish new posts on a weekly schedule. Every Tuesday, we’ll give you a preview of the poetry books publishing in the next week. Since we love poetry, we include both chapbooks and full-length collections in this feature of the Publisher’s Corner blog section. The blog side also features short reviews and advice for writers. We publish new long form reviews, craft essays, and other journal content, like author features and interviews, on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

For our first issue so far, we have three pieces reviewing seven chapbooks. First up is an essay I wrote reviewing recent Rattle Chapbook Prize winners from Arthur Russell and CooXooEii Black. Contributor Mike Bagwell reviews Juliet Cook’s Your Mouth is Moving Backwards (Ethel, 2023). And from C.M. Crockford, we’ll have a piece reviewing two recently published chapbooks from Justin Lacour and James Coal Jackson, along with a forthcoming chapbook from award-winning poet, Rae Armantrout.

You can get both blog and journal updates sent to your email by subscribing to our free Substack. All PCR content will always be free to access and we don’t share subscriber information.

For writers, we’re still accepting contributions for February and beyond. We’re open to unsolicited submissions until January 15 and we always accept pitches and queries. Check our submissions page for guidelines on what we’re looking for and our current rates. We are a paying outlet and we also do our best to feature our contributors and their other writing-related work.

Finally, I’ve put the Yeats Poem-a-Day Project on hold due to life preventing me from finishing as much as I wanted to do before launch. The webpage and social media accounts will remain active, but the section has been removed from our Front Page. I expect to launch it, with at least half a year’s content ready to go, either this July or next January.

Looking forward to a great first year,

Aiden Hunt
