April ‘24: Of SPD, Genocide, and Book Reviews

Happy National Poetry Month for readers in the United States, though the news isn’t all good. In addition to a continuing genocide in Gaza, which is being shamefully enabled by this country, the sudden closure of Small Press Distribution (SPD) last month was a blow to the poetry world. Still, we have new poetry chapbook reviews and poems for our readers.

Among those affected by SPD’s sudden closure was Bull City Press and through a happy coincidence, we have a glowing review of one of their books for April; our new contributor, Drishya, reviews T. De Los Reyes’ debut chapbook, And Yet Held. Maybe you can help the press by buying a copy. We’ll also be publishing my new review-essay on Cindy Juyoung Ok’s House Work, published by Ugly Duckling Presse last March, and C.M. Crockford reviews A Throat Full of Forest-Dirt by Bri Stokes (Bottlecap Press).

Continuing PCR’s Contributor Poem of the Month feature, we’ve updated our front page for April with Mike Bagwell’s poem “Self Portrait” from his debut chapbook, A Collision of Soul in Midair (Bottlecap Press). Will Russo’s poem “Collection” will continue to grace our front page until the fifteenth when we will be publishing a new Chapbook Poem of the Month.

If you have a poetry chapbook to promote– forthcoming, or out in the past two years– and want to have an excerpted poem considered for our front page, please contact us for more information.

Thanks for reading and take care!
